# Bring your own AI provider key

**Paste an OpenRouter / Anthropic / OpenAI / Gemini key; encrypted at rest; bypasses the shared house cap.**

## Why bring your own

The shared house AI budget is generous but capped ($30/month per house tier). If you use AI features heavily — daily briefs, agents that call AI on every trigger, Canvas widgets — a BYO key removes that ceiling and puts you on your own upstream quota.

## Where to paste

Account → AI Provider. Pick the provider (OpenRouter recommended — it fronts most others), paste the key, save. Encrypted at rest with AES-256-GCM (key held in Google Secret Manager).

## Routing order

The cascade tries your BYO key _after_ our free-first house pool (self-hosted → OpenRouter free tier) but _before_ the paid house providers. So if free tiers are available, you don't spend on your key either.

## Providers we support

  - **OpenRouter** — fronts Claude, GPT, Gemini, Mistral. Recommended.
  - **Anthropic** — direct Claude API.
  - **OpenAI** — direct GPT API.
  - **Gemini** — Google AI Studio.

## Revoke

Delete in Account → AI Provider, or rotate the key on the provider side. We stop using it immediately.
